Finnish researchers recycle cobalt electrodes without crushing, melting
It may soon be possible to recycle spent lithium-ion battery electrodes without crushing or melting operations, according to researchers at Aalto University in Espoo, Finland.
Electrodes containing cobalt - a mineral with a troubling human rights record and uncertain future in the battery industry - can be removed from spent batteries and re-used “as-is after being newly saturated with lithium,” the researchers say.
