The US Department of Energy says it plans to release $750 million from President Joe Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to reduce the cost of clean hydrogen technologies, Kallanish reports.

The funding is expected to advance electrolysis technology, drive down clean hydrogen and fuel cell costs, and provide long-term support for hydrogen hubs and other industrial deployments, the federal agency says.

The funding is a key part of the Biden administration’s approach to accelerating the widespread use of clean hydrogen with net-zero carbon emissions and will play a key role in supporting commercial-scale hydrogen deployment, DOE says in releasing its notice of intent.

The “announcement is yet another exciting step toward lowering the cost of and scaling-up clean hydrogen production,” says Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm. The $750m will help implement Biden’s climate agenda by boosting clean hydrogen, she says.

The federal hydrogen investment will be managed by DOE’s Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technologies Office. DOE has other programs, including grants to hydrogen hubs and tax incentives, to boost clean hydrogen development and use.
