CP to use Ballard fuel cells in hydrogen locomotive program
Canadian Pacific says it will employ Ballard Power Systems’ fuel cell modules in the railroad’s pioneering hydrogen locomotive program, Kallanish reports.
The modules will provide a total of 1.2 megawatts of electricity to power the locomotive. Ballard plans to deliver six of its 200-kilowatt fuel cell modules to the railroad in 2021. It will also provide support to integrate the modules into the locomotives.
