Cook Islands grant first seabed nodule exploration permits
The government of the Cook Islands has approved three companies to explore for mineral-rich nodules on the floor of the Pacific Ocean, Kallanish reports.
The country’s Seabed Minerals Authority approved Moana Minerals, CIC Ltd and CIIC Seabed Resources Ltd for the nation’s first exploration licenses, although seabed mining is likely years away, officials say. The companies are all based in the Cook Islands.
