COBALT, NICKEL: Electra Battery Materials' refinery closure plan wins approval
Electra Battery Minerals says its closure plan for its recommissioned and expanded hydrometallurgical refinery in northern Ontario has been approved by regulators, Kallanish reports.
That is a major milestone and keeps the cobalt sulfate refinery on track to be commissioned in December 2022, the Ontario-based company says. A separate battery recycling plant is scheduled to begin commercial operations in 2023.
