Canadian government supports ArcelorMittal furnace conversion with CAD 400m
The Canadian federal government is injecting CAD 400 million ($320.73m) into ArcelorMittal Dofasco to support the company’s CAD 1.765 billion emissions-cutting project in Hamilton, Ontario, Kallanish reports.
The project will ultimately replace coal-fired steelmaking at the site with an electric furnace that can accept both hydrogen and direct-reduced iron feedstock. When completed, the conversion will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 3m tonnes/year.
