California utility opens second BESS in San Diego
A California utility is beginning operations at its second battery energy storage system (BESS) project in the city of San Diego, Kallanish reports.
The facility in the Kearney Mesa neighbourhood will provide 20 megawatts/80 megawatt hours to meet the energy needs of about 13,000 homes for up to four hours, says San Diego Gas & Electric. Company officials say the BESS facility with its 126 cubes is equal to 1,600 battery-powered Teslas in providing power.…
