Biden provides auto boon with electric fleet conversion
US President Joe Biden is taking a big step as part of his recent Buy America initiative - replacing the entire federal fleet of nearly 650,000 vehicles with electric alternatives.
In a statement accompanying his Buy America executive order 25 January, President Biden said the conversion of the fleet will spur jobs throughout the supply chain. Critically, the move will support jobs in the burgeoning battery industry and provide base load for steel.
