Anglo American’s Q4 nickel production up, copper down
UK-based miner Anglo American reported on Thursday a 9% on-year increase in its nickel production, but a 6% decline in its copper output during the fourth quarter of 2023.
The company produced 11,100 tonnes of nickel in the quarter, compared to 10,200 t in Q4 2022, thanks to improved stability in its Brazilian operation. In 2023, nickel volumes grew mildly by 1% to around 40,000 t. Realised nickel prices, however, declined 25% on-year to $7.71 per pound.
