Steel Markets Forum - India 2023
Overview
Amid the global slowdown, from Chinese futures dropping to softening sentiments in Europe, India maintained its position on the back of strong domestic demand and a consistent uptick in crude steel production in the first two quarters. Indian steel exports, however, took a hit because of the slowed outbound shipments to Vietnam, Europe, and the United Arab Emirates. At the same time, the influx of steel has risen significantly in India, which may pressurise domestic steelmakers. The nation is gearing up to achieve its most celebrated target of producing 300 million tonnes/year of crude steel by 2030; simultaneously, concerns for decarbonisation and Europe’s CBAM are growing. India’s development will be shaped by factors both internal and external. The India Steel Forum will bring together Kallanish editorial expertise from India, the Far East and Europe, as well as expert opinion and insights from Indian steel executives, to give an international outlook for India’s rise.
- How should India become another steel giant in the midst of decarbonisation and green steelmaking?
- After the scrap export ban by the UAE, South Africa, and other Gulf nations will India come up with a policy supporting domestic scrap generation?
- How beneficial is the termination of Section 232 for Indian steel exports to the US?
- Will CBAM shut off Indian exports to Europe?
- Will India outcompete new capacities in SE Asia, coastal China and the Middle East?
