In 1980 Roger began writing about non-ferrous metals (including copper, cobalt and cadmium) for Metal Bulletin. In 1983, he joined Commodities Research Unit (CRU), as a consultant in the copper team. His career at CRU also included writing for Fertilizer Week. After he joined SteelScreen, a B2B venture capital funded steel trading exchange, Roger - with others - established Steel Business Briefing (SBB) in 2001. As SBB's managing editor, he oversaw all of the company’s publications. SBB was sold in 2011 and since then Roger has enjoyed his retirement: he continues, however, to spearhead the Kallanish Blog, and is a proud member of the Kallanish faculty, as well as writing a weekly column on the global steel markets under the name of Kestrelman.

Roger Emmott is a highly regarded management consultant, business developer, innovator and advisor to the global metals and mining sector. For over more than 20 years he has advised more than 50 clients in over 50 countries. Roger has held senior positions with Steel Business Briefing, Atkins Plc in the UK and Hatch Associates of Canada. In these roles he gained in-depth experience of strategic, due diligence, market and feasibility studies including interview and research techniques, information synthesis, validation and presentation.

Russell Dearden worked for Tata Steel UK (formerly known as British Steel and then Corus) for 38 years, joining them in 1970 as a mechanical Engineering student apprentice. His career progressed through Engineer in the steelworks to Production Control Engineer in the tubeworks plug mill. The transition into sales was made in 1982 with a 2 year spell still with British Steel in Canada as Technical Manager for downhole casing and tubing utilising VAM threads. Here he gained his Chartered Engineer status. With the Oil price fall around 1984 he then returned to the commercial centre in Corby in the Midlands, where he focused on line pipe retiring in 2011 as Tata Steel UK, Sales Manager for pipelines Americas & Middle East. He is now working part time as the convenor for ISO TC67 SC2 WG16 which looks after ISO 3183 line pipe standard.
