Southern China's Guangdong province has completed its 2016 capacity elimiantion goal by cutting 3.07 million tonnes/year of steelmaking capability, according to the Guangdong provincial Development and Reform Commission. All involved equipment has reportedly had its removal verified, Kallanish notes.

Official data from the National Bureau of Statistics shows in 2015 Guangdong produced 17.62 million tonnes of crude steel. Over January to October it has produced 19.11mt crude steel, an increase of 35.1% year-on-year. Almost all of this increase is due to the commissioning of the Baosteel Zhanjiang steelworks project.
