French stainless scrap prices to decline
French stainless scrap prices are expected to decrease in new, July contracts, as European demand for 304 and 316 stainless scrap grades has declined, Kallanish notes.
This is because some producers have chosen to buy slab and nickel pig iron from Asia instead. Both slab and nickel pig iron are more budget-friendly options when compared to domestic scrap. Mill operators continue to buy scrap, but in much smaller tonnages.
