The European Union has expanded its list of personal sanctions against Russia, including Igor Zyuzin, chairman of Russian steelmaker Mechel, among others, in the latest sanctions round, Kallanish notes.

The company did not respond to inquiries regarding whether it anticipates any changes to its corporate structure as a result of EU sanctions on Zyuzin or the potential impact of these measures.

All individuals listed under EU sanctions are prohibited from entering the EU, and their assets are subject to freezing. As for companies, in addition to asset freezes, European businesses are prohibited from maintaining any contacts with them.

In 2024, due to another round of sanctions, Mechel faced challenges that affected production and commercial performance, while continuing to have a tangible impact on business processes. This forced Mechel to adapt its sales policy to the new market realities and optimise logistics chains, redirecting coal sales from exports to the domestic market.
