World crude steel output continues to grow (July 30, 2019)

World crude steel production for the 64 countries reporting to the World Steel Association increased 4.6% on-year in June to 158.98 million tonnes.

As in the previous month, Chinese production surged 10% on-year to 87.53mt in June, while Indian output rose 4% to 9.34mt and Japanese production inched up 0.4% to 8.79mt. South Korean output, however, fell -2.6% to 5.96mt. Overall Asian production grew 7.4% in June to 115.62mt.

EU28 output declined again in June, this time by -3% to 13.79mt, as German and Italian production fell -5.8% and -2.5% respectively to 3.41mt and 2.09mt. However, French and Spanish production grew 3.4% and 2.3% respectively to 1.31mt and 1.21mt. Polish output is estimated to have fallen -7.1% to 780,000t.

The US increased output 3.1% in June to 7.28mt, but Brazilian production fell -3.1% to 2.82mt.
