Turkish domestic scrap prices increase

Turkish domestic scrap prices have risen this week as some local mills raised their purchasing prices, Kallanish learns from the companies' price updates.

Integrated long steelmaker Kardemir has lifted its domestic auto-bundle (DKP) scrap buying price by TRY 50/tonne to TRY 1,380/t ($357/t), effective 13 March, from TRY 1,330/t asked for since late January. Its scrap-based peer Kroman Celik simultaneously hiked its DKP price by TRY 70/t versus 22 February to TRY 1,330/t.

Scrap-based flats and longs maker Colakoglu Metalurji's DKP price has risen by TRY 20/t to TRY 1,400/t, effective 10 March, from TRY 1,380/t, effective 24 February. Alloy steelmaker Asil Celik's DKP price has also gone up TRY 20/t to TRY 1,420/t from 11 March. Long steelmaker Diler Demir Celik's DKP price is up TRY 30/t over February to TRY 1,400/t from 10 March.

The increase in domestic scrap prices reflects the scrap import price increase in Turkey to a new 3.5-year high last week, supported by strong local demand for rebar.
