Brazilian CSP's slab exports rise in H1

Brazil’s Companhia Siderúrgica do Pecém (CSP) exported 1.27 million tonnes of slab from the Port of Pecem in the first six months of 2017, Kallanish learns from data issued by the local port authority.

According to the report, activity at Porto do Pecém increased by 79% on-year in H1, mainly driven by CSP’s steel exports. These comprised over 65% of the 1.91mt of exports from Porto do Pecém in H1.

CSP is targeting the export of around 2.9mt of slab from the Ceará-based port in 2017. CSP’s slab has already been exported to countries such as Germany, South Korea, the United States, Indonesia, Italy, Morocco, Mexico, the United Kingdom, Czech Republic, Thailand, Taiwan and Turkey.

CSP is the fourth-largest steelmaker in Brazil. The company is a joint venture formed by Vale (50%) and South Korean companies Dongkuk (30%) and Posco (20%).
